How could Fort Wayne lose the body of such a prominent figure in local history so soon after his death? It turns out, losing graves has happened fairly frequently in Fort Wayne’s history and in U.S. history.

Allen County Judge Frances Gull was honored Saturday by the Mary Penrose Wayne chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

On April 21, 1901, Fort Wayne residents eligible for membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution held their first meeting at the home of Francis Haberly Robertson.

The Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum received a donation of $150,000 from the Mary Penrose Wayne Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution to construct a new Chapel at 2122 O’Day Road in Fort Wayne.

The Chapel will be named the Sterling Chapel as requested by DAR member Jeanette Thomas Sterling. The check presentation will be next Tuesday, April 27th at 1 p.m. at Buckner’s Park Pavilion located at 6114 Bass Road due to the construction of the Vietnam Wall taking place at the Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum.

The Daughters of the American Revolution Mary Penrose Wayne Chapter have announced the winner of their 2021 Good Citizen Scholarship.

The Good Citizen Award seeks to recognize students who show dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.
